GDPR – Fail To Prepare, Prepare To Fail

By February 13, 2017March 8th, 2024Blog

It may seem premature but 2018 and the new GDPR directive is not as far away as you think.

So to help you prepare for the new regulations, here’s our quick and easy 5 step guide to getting your business ready for GDPR.

1. Find out where all your data is

Review your current approach to managing Personally Identifiable Information (PII) by arranging for a GDPR Readiness Assessment to be carried out.  This comprehensive and often free assessment and GDPR overview (we don’t charge), will gain insight into your IT estate and flag any data issues which could lead to a breach of the new directive.

2. Don’t keep GDPR to yourself

Tell your colleagues about the new GDPR guidelines.  You don’t want “No one mentioned GDPR to me” to lead to a substantial fine, so make sure your team are up to date about the new directive and are supported throughout the process.  To help you do this…

3. Nominate or appoint a dedicated GDPR Officer

This person will be responsible for all aspects relating to GDPR, including tracking and reporting on all PII data, even when it’s located on corporate laptops or mobiles. This does sound like an arduous task, but can be easily done via Druva’s inSync service, our dedicated end point protection and monitoring solution.

4. Consolidate your data

Did you know 40% of corporate data never reaches the central IT platform? This is mainly because employees like to retain their own “easy to access” files which contain PII on their corporate laptop or mobile. Therefore with GDPR on the horizon, this might be a good time to introduce a solution like CX:inSync to consolidate, backup, track and monitor corporate endpoint data.

5. Hold regular GDPR updates

Okay, so these won’t be the most exciting team talks ever, but your appointed GDPR officer will be responsible for keeping key stakeholders up to date and reminding all employees including new starters of their GDPR responsibilities.

So there you have it, follow these simple steps, including speaking to us about a FREE GDPR Readiness Assessment, and come May 2018 your business will be fully prepared for GDPR.
